Escalator, Crowne Plaza Columbus OH
POVs...
I am one of those people who enjoy taking photos for just herself.
It is just something I have done for over 30 years. Ever since I bought my first 35mm SLR.
Lots has changed since then!
I have my own views on what I want to see and it is for me. I don't really care if my subjects are something that may be a growing trend or definitely (as you can see) not your typical point-and-shoot-and-then-publish photos that people take.
There are plenty of photographers who can do that in the yellow pages and good thing too, because people want them or need them to take baby photos or whatever. It is better to hire someone for that in most cases, and they are good at what they do.
I just take photos from the mindset that they are for me.

Sure if someone wanted to purchase one or the whole collection of say a theme of photos, then why not? But when I shoot, it is for me. (and I never called it shooting photos way back either!)

When I edit, it is for me as well.
Maybe you don't like my editing? It is possible. But I like it.
That is what matters... in the original version of this photo - well, it basically looks like this but there have been a lot of revisions. I tend to do that. My 'Urban Grunge' look is something I love to do and uniquely mine. I know I cannot trademark the term because it has been used in other areas and other people do versions of it. If you really know how to use Photoshop and look close enough you might see what I have done or have an idea. There are many steps and subtleties. That is when being an artist plays into the work. So... I consider the actual photograph just a tool, a sort of canvas - not the art. It is what "I" do to it that is my art.

And that is a good thing. It is something I have done, my own process...just like my own Point Of View.

  1. That is precisely why I look at your work, to get your point of view. I also consider how I treat a photo. To me, that is where the emotion comes into play. That is what reflects what I feel about the photograph. I look at your creations to learn how you have reacted to the scene.

My husband and I had a great photo walk this weekend. Got lots of 'urban grunge'. Graffiti, run down buildings, urban entertainment district. Now, I just need to have some peaceful time to decide what I want to do with them.

  3. and here I am, having always thought the very same but never putting it into words. Anyone can take a photo (which is probably why I haven't done so much in the field of photography) but not many can work with it. (see most layouts) and that's precisely why most of my work takes me five or more hours to complete. I so agree that the real art is in how you interpret a photo. Well done, dear friend.
